European parquet consumption continued to decrease during the three first quarters of 2024 but at a slowing pace, reflecting the still subdued construction activity and increased pressure from Chinese imports

The Board of Directors of the European Parquet Federation, FEP, met on 23 October 2024, and discussed amongst others the parquet situation on the European markets.

Parquet markets fell in almost all FEP countries during the three first quarters 2024 compared to the same period last year, echoing the still subdued activity in the construction sector.

As consumers’ purchasing power has been hit, cheaper alternatives such as fake wood floorings are now more frequently considered as well as unfairly-priced parquet from Chinese origin. In view of a potential during the past weeks – and now formally confirmed as of 25 October 2024 – registration of imports, increased flows of multilayer parquet from China have been observed in the EU market, potentially with the aim of building-up stocks before the imposition of measures later this year. Such imports could, however, be made subject to retroactive collections of the anti-dumping duties, if the legal criteria are met.
